New record for pushups

So I repeated the high volume pushup workout. Last time I did this, on Super Bowl Sunday, I did 300 pushups in 33:40. Today I did 300 in 29:19. Then I took a short break and did another 50, for a total of 35:52. I thought about trying to get up to 400, but I started failing after every two pushups on my last set and decided to call it quits. I'm still happy with my results for today.

Earlier this morning, I worked out with the Crossfit group. We did 21 DB snatches (on each arm), DB swings, 3 room lengths traveling burpees; 15 snatches, 15 swings, 3 lengths, 9 snatches, 9 swings, 3 lengths.

Then we ran 3x400m intervals. My times were 1:29, 1:24, and 1:15, which are OK, I guess. I want to get faster...need to do more intervals. :)

ooh, I like the sound of that! I may try that combo when I get back to a place with weights (although I'll use kb's). Do you find a difference between db's and kb's for snatches and swings?

I don't like doing the moves with dumbbells quite as much as kettlebells. The dumbbells are really versatile and you can do almost anything with them...but I'm still a KB girl. :) I used a 35lb DB for the workout yesterday, but if I had done it on my own, I think I would have preferred a 20kg KB (granted the workout would have taken me a lot longer). The snatches feel easier with the DB, and the DB swing feels pretty different because I have to use a lot of upper body to control the weight at the top of the swing (which ends with the weight directly overhead). I would have preferred to do shoulder high swings with a 24 or 32kg...but it is good to mix things up and try something new once in a while.

When I'm training on my own again, I'll have to put together a garage gym, most likely, especially if I'm working in San Antonio. In that case, I might pick up some heavy DB's, since they're a heck of a lot cheaper than KBs...but I have plenty of time to think about it before that time comes...

If you buy them from the source, I don't see how they are much cheaper than kb's:

I'm planning on trying to make some as soon as school's over, using basketballs and sand and/or lead shot. I got a good instruction site from a CNT at the gym; I'll send it to you if you want.

Oh, ha. When I said DB's, I meant dumbbells. Not d-balls. :D

oh, i get it! I'm planning on buying kb's as soon as I move and save up money to do so. I have my fantasy gym on a piece of paper, but its totalling over $1000 at this point, so I need to be realistic :)

What size kb's do you think you'll buy?

If I had money (and wasn't working at a gym with kb's) I think right now I would buy a 16 and a 20. I don't know. Its too bad they're so expensive, because I like to use so many different sizes...

I wish someone would come up with some sort of trade in program for kb's. I would totally trade in my 12s for 16s right now. Although the 12s are great for double snatches and for DH, and for high reps, but that's about it.

I think for now I'd get a pair of 16's, a single 20, and a single 12. I can do most things with 16's, I'd use the 20 for snatches, cleans, presses on one side at a time, and I'd use the 12 for weighted pushups, pullups and throwing exercises :)

But eventually I'll want a full set of 12's to 24's, with single 28 and 32 or 40K as well (for swings). All once I'm making more than a negative income, of course!
